Educational Programs


Clinical Activities

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology provides a full breadth of clinical service that is comparable to most major academic medical centers. The department is includes the Divisions of:

  • General Obstetrics and Gynecology

  • Maternal-Fetal Medicine

  • Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility

  • Gynecologic Oncology

  • Reproductive Genetics

  • Urogynecology and Pelvic Reconstructive Surgery

  • Midwifery and Community Health.

In addition, there is a fellowship trained Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecologist and faculty with expertise in Family Planning. The clinical staff are faculty members of the Tufts University School of Medicine and are active not only in clinical care, but also in education and research.

Research Activities

Some of the research activities within the department include:

  • breast cancer and reproductive hormones

  • innovative techniques to manage gynecologic hemorrhage

  • improving outcomes of assisted reproduction
  • patient safety
  • new applications of gynecologic surgeryoutcomes of depression in pregnancy

  • smoking cessation in pregnancy

  • novel approaches to medical education

  • improving outcomes for women with endometriosis

  • evaluation of outcomes of pelvic re-constructive surgery

  • exercise physiology in pregnancy

 

In addition to work conducted solely at Baystate Medical Center, the Department also collaborates with the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, and Yale University School of Medicine.
