Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism Fellowship OverviewPrint 1 page summary of Endocrinology Metabolism Fellowship

The Baystate / Tufts Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism Fellowship Program is dedicated to providing a well balanced, academic experience to its trainees.

As a fellow you will work closely with the program faculty as well as faculty members in obstetrics/gynecology, surgery, nuclear medicine, radiology, pathology, pediatric and reproductive endocrinology.  You will interact with other subspecialty fellows and work with residents of the Internal Medicine Program which was selected by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and the Residency Review Committee for Internal Medicine as only one of 17 residency programs in the nation to participate in their Educational Innovations Project (EIP), and medicine-pediatric residency program.

The faculty and staff take pride in creating a friendly working environment and the high faculty-to-fellow ratio provides for a rich learning experience for our trainees. The fellows have ample protected time for research during the course of their training.

Plans for the Future

The institution is embarking on an initiative spearheaded by the Division of Endocrinology to establish an obesity and diabetes center that would offer ample research opportunities for incoming fellows as well as valuable clinical experience.

The division has recruited two new faculty members to expand the clinical and basic sciences research components and is recruiting an additional faculty member to expand the inpatient diabetes service.

The Basic Research Lab

A cluster of basic researchers led by Dr. Enrique Silva and Dr. Alan Schneyer are currently actively engaged in basic research in the areas of fuel metabolism, and diabetes and obesity.  This provides our fellows a unique opportunity to engage in cutting edge research under the guidance of internationally recognized scientists.  Additional research opportunities exist beyond the two years of fellowship training.
