The objective of this rotation is to provide the student with
an overall view of the specialty of anesthesiology.
Emphasis will be on the maintenance of homeostasis of the
anesthetized patient. The student will follow the patient
from their preoperative evaluation through their postoperative
recovery. Control of the airway including endotrachael
intubation and the monitoring and management of the cardiac
respiratory systems in the patients receiving general and
regional anesthesia will be stressed.
The student’s time will be spent primarily in the operating
room under the supervision of a member of the faculty and/or
senior resident. The student will participate in all
the teaching activities of the Department of Anesthesiology,
and will have the opportunity to attend a variety of other
conferences.
