4th Year Electives

Child Psychiatry

Director:  Barry Sarvet, M.D.
Duration:  4 weeks
Students per month: 1

This elective allows the fourth year medical student to gain experience in child psychiatry.  Working with the elective director, the student will develop the details of the elective based upon their career interests and the resources available at Baystate Medical Center.  This may include participating in clinical care as well as the research interests of the faculty.  Areas of faculty interests currently include psychiatric issues in pediatric primary care (including access to psychiatric care), psychiatric consultation to inpatient and outpatient pediatric providers, research into pediatric and adolescent depression, and psychiatric aspects of childhood diseases including cancer, diabetes, and HIV.  Locations for these experiences may include the outpatient setting, general hospital, or intensive outpatient setting, such as our day school and partial hospital program.

Students are expected to work full days during the week.  No nights or weekends during this rotation.

If you are interested in our 4th year elective, please submit an application.
