4th Year Electives

Pediatric Subspecialties

Director:   Hillary Branch, M. D.

Duration:   4 weeks
Students per month:   2

A rotation that gives a taste of several pediatric subspecialties.  A flexible four week elective with exposure to multiple subspecialties will be designed for each student.  Subspecialties include pulmonary (including cystic fibrosis and bronchopulmonary dysplasia), allergy, endocrinology, adolescent medicine, cardiology, sexual abuse, and child neurology.  In general, we suggest limiting the number of experiences to three or four, including some pediatric urgent care experiences.

Frequently, students will attend outpatient subspecialties with housestaff and third year Tufts’ students.  Student will have direct patient contact in the outpatient setting under the supervision of various subspecialty attendings.  Students will also be encouraged to attend reqular pediatric teaching conferences including Grand Rounds (T, 9:00 a.m. ) and resident or student educational conferences (M, W, Th, F at 7:45 a.m.

No nights or weekends during this rotation.

Portions of this elective take place off of the Baystate campus.  A car is recommended as Baystate cannot provide transportation to off-campus sites.
