Psychosomatic Medicine

This elective provides the student with experience at the
interface of psychiatry and medicine. The student is
based on the Psychiatry Consultation Service of Baystate Medical
Center taking primary responsibility for psychiatric assessment
and follow-up of patients admitted to the general hospital.
Supervision of all cases will be provided by one of the three
full-time consultation psychiatrists on the service.
Students will meet weekly with the course director for individual
teaching sessions. Students may also participate in
outpatient consultations for specialty areas such as pain
management or memory disorders. Opportunities to participate
in ongoing research in end-of-life care are also available.
Additional clinical experiences may be arranged based on the
student's interests.
No nights or weekends during this rotation.
