Trauma Surgery

The object of this clerkship is to provide the broadest exposure to comprehensive care. Baystate Medical Center is the Level 1 Trauma Center for Western Massachusetts and sees approximately 1,950 trauma patients of all ages annually.  The student will participate actively with the Trauma Team in resuscitation and surgery of the trauma victim.  There will be daily rounds in the ICU and floor care of the trauma patient along with weekly Trauma Clinics.  The Trauma Service incorporates pediatric, neurosurgical and orthopedic trauma. 

Students are required to be on call every fourth night and two weekend days during the month.
