4th Year Electives

Application Process

Our electives are open to all students attending a medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).


We invite you to consider the elective opportunities at Baystate Medical Center.

Certain electives may have individual application requirements. Please be sure to check the elective description for complete information.

Baystate Requirements

  1. Background Check


  2. Immunizations
    All students are required to have proof of:

    • Tuberculin Skin Test - a negative TB test within 1 year or a negative chest x-ray within 5 years of a positive reading. 
    • Varicella Immunity – a positive titer, or proof of 2 doses of the vaccine. History of the disease is not accepted as proof of exposure
    • Rubeola (measles) Immunity – a positive titer or proof of 2 doses of the vaccine.
    • Rubella Immunity – a positive titer or proof of 1 dose of the vaccine.


  3. Students must give 30 days notice to drop an elective


  4. All students are obliged to adhere to the following:

    • Tufts University School of Medicine (TUSM) Technical Standards as outlined in the TUSM Student Handbook (p. 77-80)

    • Standards of Academic Professional Conduct

    • TUSM Student Honor Code
