We invite you to consider the opportunities for medical students at Baystate Medical Center. Our faculty and residents are committed to providing the highest quality education and outstanding experiences for medical students.

At Baystate,
medical students are a
valued part of the team.

Your active participation in all of our educational and clinical activities will enhance your:

  • clinical decision-making skills

  • opportunities to engage in many different types of educational activities including human patient simulations in the Baystate Simulation Center

  • ability to work closely with residents, faculty, and residency program directors.

Baystate is Tufts University
School of Medicine's Western Campus

As TUSM's largest clinical training site, we offer medical student education across all specialties.  Our third-year clerkships are dedicated to TUSM students—we offer all five of TUSM's required third-year clerkships. We also offer more than 50 fourth-year electives that are open to students from TUSM and other accredited medical schools.

On average, there are about 200 medical students
learning at Baystate every year.

Visiting Fourth-Year Students

Baystate takes great pleasure in hosting more than 100 visiting fourth-year medical students from schools from across the country for fourth-year electives.  We make every effort to meet your scheduling needs and learning objectives.  To make your elective in the Pioneer Valley easier, we offer free on-campus housing and parking on a first come, first served basis to visiting students.

Each 4th-year elective is approximately 4 weeks in length.  To apply to one of our electives or for more information regarding our medical student programs, please review our application process or email the Office of Undergraduate Medical Education .
