BMC Resident and Fellows Provide
Leadership at Annual American Geriatric Society Meeting
Indicating the growing national prominence of BMC's geriatric medicine program, seven residents presented nine posters -- about a quarter of all resident papers accepted -- at the American Geriatric Society's recent annual meeting in Chicago. Two geriatric fellows also presented posters.
In photo with Dr. Maura Brennan, second from right, head of the geriatric medicine residency track, among the BMC residents and fellows at the meeting were, from left, Drs. Eileen Kehoe, Arnulfo Deray, Rosette Odulio, Reham Shaaban, William Ortiz, and Carmel Celestin.
Faculty members were active as well. Sandra Bellantonio, M.D moderated a symposium, “Overcoming Obstacles to Integrating Geriatrics into a Residency Program,” and Maura Brennan, M.D headed a residency recruitment initiative.
Recognizing Baystate as a leader in recruitment and geriatric education of residents, AGS leaders turned to a core group of BMC trainees over the past year for advice on how to best meet the needs of residents and recruit young physicians into geriatrics.
BMC’s program was also well-represented at the inaugural meeting of a special interest group for residents, which was convened in Chicago and met with the president and senor staff of AGS. Half of the house officers present, and the resident leader, were from Baystate.
Baystate appreciates the outstanding efforts of the geriatric faculty and fellows, and program director, Kevin Hinchey, and commends the leadership, initiative and commitment of the following residents and fellows. Abstracts of their research are published in the April supplement of the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society.
