Researchers awarded $2.8M NIH contract
Jay Steingrub, MD and Mark Tidswell, MD from Baystate’s Department of Medicine will contribute to a multi-center study investigating interventions for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The contract, totaling more than $2.8 million over the next six years, will support a clinical research center at Baystate. The researchers will work with 12 other centers, collectively known as the ARDS Network.

Welch Recieves NIH Grant to Use Information Technology to Manage Chronic Diseases

BMC and UMass Research Team Awarded CBR Grant
Thomas Zoeller, PhD, professor of biology at UMass Amherst and Enrique Silva, MD, Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes at Baystate Medical Center have received a grant from the Collaborative Biomedical Research Program. Their project, “Gene Expression Regulation by Thyroid Hormone in Brown Adipose Tissue,” may increase the understanding of physiological responses to under and over feeding, and ultimately, contribute to new treatment strategies for Type II diabetes and obesity.
