Dr. Leonard Sax, Executive Director of Montgomery Center for Research in Child and Adolescent Development and author of "Why Gender Matters" will speak on the emerging science of sex differences. Topics will include:

  • innate differences in the wiring of the male and female brains

  • how these differences influence gender based communication style

  • new ways to effectively communicate with the opposite sex.

WAAM Event: Women's Health Symposium—Does Gender Really Matter?

Key note speaker Leonard Sax is a world expert on gender differences and author of "Why Gender Matters." This course is designed for physicians, nurse midwives, nurses practitioners, nurses and dietitians and will provide an update on contemporary issues in women's health including:

Baystate Academic Affairs will provide funding for (1) one year of membership in the Society of Clinical Research Associates if you are not already a member; (2) the Prep & Review Course; and (3) the Certification Exam.


Baystate will also pay for the Prep & Review Course for those who are not yet eligible to sit for the exam, and for those who would like to attend as a “refresher” course. (Download the information sheet)

Registration and payment will take place through the IRB office, please do not submit applications directly to SoCRA.  An e-mail with the forms that need to be completed will be sent as soon they are available from SoCRA.  More information about SoCRA:http://www.socra.org.

Research Week Awards

All accepted submissions are judged for two award categories - Significance in Research and Innovation in Research.  The awards are presented to the individual or group at the luncheon on Tuesday, May 22, 2007.  Each award includes a $250.00 honorarium.

Award for Significance in Research

The award recognizes the importance of the research.  It is awarded to the research project that has the greatest impact or potential to advance scientific knowledge or clinical practice as judged by the effect on the concepts, methods, technologies, treatments, services or preventative interventions for the field of research.

Award for Innovation in Research

The award recognizes the originality of the research.  It is awarded to the research project that best challenges existing paradigms or clinical practice as judged by an innovative hypothesis, addresses a critical barrier to progress, or develops or employs novel concepts, approaches or methodologies, tools, or technologies for the field of research.
