NEWS Midwifery Education Program Receives 10-Year Accreditation—the Longest Possible Period Initially accredited in 1991, Baystate's Midwifery Education Program (MEP) was re-evaluated this sping and was granted a 10-year accreditation by the American College of Nurse-Midwives Division of Accreditation. In 2004, the Baystate Medical Center Midwifery Education Program entered a partnership with University of Massachusetts—Amherst School of Nursing that allowed midwifery students to complete some Master in Science degree requirements prior to entering the Midwifery Education Program, and complete their masters degree in one semester following graduation from the MEP. This collaboration was acknowledged in the award letter as an appropriate mechanism for students to earn a graduate degree as will be required in 2010. Effective in fall 2008, the MEP/UMass collaboration will offer a five semester program with a concurrent midwifery and master in science curriculum. This additional training is needed to stand out in a highly competitive career path. The residency program is affiliated with Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences—Worcester Campus that allows the residents to become involved in the academic aspect of pharmacy practice. Residents will also assist Clinical Pharmacists in precepting the PharmD experiential education program, which ultimately contributes to the core learning of a 6th year PharmD student.
