New Open Forums for Residents and Fellows Start in April
Part of New Initiatives to Enhance Resident & Fellow Feedback

To help us better understand and respond to the needs of our residents and fellows, two new initiatives are being implemented by the Division of Academic Affairs and the Graduate Medical Education Committee. These initiatives are part of our ACGME institutional requirement to provide suitable mechanisms for residents and fellows to provide feedback and bring forth their concerns about the workplace and their training programs. They replace the “Resident Advisory Council,” which has been discontinued.

First Initiative:

Regularly Schedulued Meetings with Baystate's Designated Institutional Official for Graduate Medical Education

Twice each year Dr. Jenson, Designated Institutional Official for graduate medical education at Baystate, will hold a meeting for the residents of each of our 9 residency programs. At least once each year, he will meet with fellows of each of our fellowships. In addition to these scheduled meetings, Dr. Jenson remains available at any time to meet with any program, group of residents, or individual resident about any concern.

Second Initiative:

Resident & Fellow Forums with the DIO and GMEC Leadership

Dr. Jenson and the leadership of the GMEC (Dr. Ron Burkman, GMEC Chair and Dr. Hinchey, GMEC Vice-Chair) will meet twice with all residents in an open forum and twice with all fellows in an open forum.

These forums provide an opportunity for all residents and fellows to address timely issues such as the master facilities plan, impact of the demolition of the Porter Building, resident/fellow work space and sleep space, parking and security, meal tickets and any other concerns. All residents should attend the Resident Open Forums, and all fellows should attend the Fellow Open Forums.

To maximize attendance, the Division of Academic Affairs has scheduled the Forums at times that are least disruptive to the Programs. Other events for residents and fellows should be canceled, or they should be excused from those events, so that all residents and fellows can attend the Forums.

Each of these Forums will be held twice each year, in April and October.

Dynamic New Educational Tool Available for Faculty

Gameshow Pro 3 is an educational software program incorporating audience responses that you can use to produce a fun, interactive learning presentation customized to your audience, content and objectives. The software and the audience responders are available to Baystate faculty through the Office of Continuing Education and the Baystate Health Sciences Library. Gameshow Pro 3 can be used by faculty and residents to develop interactive educational programs suitable for resident and fellow lectures and even for Grand Rounds.

What is Gameshow Pro 3?

Gameshow Pro 3 consists of six gameshow programs, such as TV’s Jeopardy®, Family Feud®, and Tic Tac Toe.® The games are controlled by the instructor and accommodate diverse learning situations and content.  Preview the gameboard types.

To Develop Your Own Customized Games

The Gameshow Pro software required to develop your own games is available on a workstation in the Baystate Health Sciences Library, and is also available for physicians with VPN access remotely.

  1. Ask library staff for the PC and headsets, or the instructions for VPN access.

  2. Prepare your questions and answers in advance. You can download an excel template to format them for easy import into the game program.

  3. Bring a flash drive (portable storage device) to save your customized game to play later.

To Play Your Games
  1. Contact Baystate’s AV department to reserve the designated laptop for the date and time you plan to play the game. This laptop has the runtime software needed to play the program.

  2. Request to borrow the buzzers and/or slammers when reserving the laptop if you would like to have participants ring in their answers.

Scheduled training sessions may be offered at a future date.

Your Continuing Education Transcript Now Online

A transcript of all of your Baystate-sponsored continuing education programs is maintained by the Office of Continuing Education and you can access it online. There is no charge for this service, and it is quick and easy to use.

To Access Your Transcript
  1. Go to www.baystatehealth.com/learn

  2. Click on "View/Print my transcript"

  3. Choose either complete transcript or enter a date range

  4. Then type in your last name and the last six digits of your social security number.

Your Transcript Data

Your transcript data is generated by matching the information you supply on the pink and white evaluation form you complete at Grand Rounds programs with information in the continuing education database. The social security number or AMA CME number you enter in the ID section is matched to your registration ID for the continuing eduation programs you sign up for. The amount of credits you receive is based on the profession you selected.
