ACGME Collection of the Stories of 20 Chief Residents is Available in the Health Sciences Library
"Journey to Authenticity: Voices of Chief Residents" consists of frank, in-depth interviews with chief residents across the country who speak about their excitement and anxiety on the first days of the residencies, memorable patients, personal changes, and professional growth. Students, current residents and fellows, and those who have lived through residencies and fellowships will find the book of interest. Each of our stories is unique, but a common thread is that residency is not simply about learning the skills of medicine. It is also a “journey to authenticity—a journey in which physicians discover both clinical wisdom and themselves.” Baystate Faculty Can Add, Review and Update Information About Their Scholarly Activity At Any Time
An important measure of the research and scholarly activity at Baystate Medical Center is the volume of our faculty's publications and presentations. To accurately quantitate this information, we have established an online Baystate Medical Center Scholarly Publications Database (http://www.scholarlypubs.org) that is available to everyone at Baystate. To establish the historic baseline, we have attempted to identify all faculty publications and scientific presentations for the past two academic years (which run July-June). There were 97 peer-reviewed publications for 2004-05, and 137 peer-reviewed publications for 2005-06.
All scholarly publications including 1) peer-reviewed publications, 2) non-peer reviewed publications, 3) book chapters, 4) books, and 5) abstracts, as well as 6) scholarly presentations are eligible for inclusion in the database. Health Sciences Library Monitors and Validates Database Entries On an ongoing basis, Health Sciences Library staff identifies faculty publications and presentations, such as those listed here in the monthly Academics@Baystate newsletter, and enters them into the database. Online Database Forms Facilitate Maintaining Current Information and Departmental Reporting Individual faculty should regularly review the database to make sure their publications and presentations are complete. At any time, faculty can use the online data entry form to add themselves as an author if they are not currently in the database, or add their new or missing publications or presentations. The library staff reviews and validates all author and publication information for accuracy before it becomes part of the permanent database.
Each Department receives a draft version of its faculty's publication data in early July each year to use in preparing the Department Annual Report for the preceding academic year. Faculty and Departments can run a number of useful reports from the database using the report generator. This capability should greatly facilitate preparing the Department Annual Reports and the institution Academic Annual Reports and reduce the duplicate requests for this information from faculty.
If you have any suggestions or comments on this new database, please send your ideas and comments to Hal Jenson. |
