Ethics Grand Rounds
Time: 7:45 am Light breakfast served

This far reaching and often provocative Grand Rounds is held by Baystate Medical Center's Ethics Committee—a multidisciplinary, interdepartmental committee that provides advice, education, case review and policy recommendations to BMC's administration, clinical and social services staff, and, where appropriate, to patients and their families.
All Baystate employees and students are invited to atend.

Schwartz Compassionate Care Rounds:
Living with the Disabilities of a Child— Challenges and Blessings for the Family and the Caregivers
Time: noon - 1:00 pm (arrive @11:45 for lunch)

After attending this program you should be able to:

Describe a critical element that enhances the relationship and understanding between patient and caregivers.

Identify patient and provider characteristics and behavior that impede or foster compassionate care.

Explain the value of communications among health care professionals, patients, and families for decision-making, intervention, and support.
Each Schwartz Center Rounds session begins with multidisciplinary clinicians presenting a challenging and interesting patient situation.

Baystate Academic Affairs will provide funding for (1) one year of membership in the Society of Clinical Research Associates if you are not already a member; (2) the Prep & Review Course;
and (3) the Certification Exam.
Baystate will also pay for the Prep & Review Course for those who are
not yet eligible to sit for the exam, and for those who would like to
attend as a “refresher” course. (Download the information sheet)

Registration and payment will take place through the IRB office, please do
not submit applications directly to SoCRA. An e-mail with the forms that need to be completed will be sent as soon they are available from SoCRA. More information about SoCRA:http://www.socra.org.

Research Week Awards
All accepted submissions are judged for two award categories
- Significance in Research and Innovation in Research. The awards are
presented to the individual or group at the luncheon on Tuesday, May 22, 2007. Each
award includes a $250.00 honorarium.
Award for Significance in Research
The award recognizes the importance of the research. It is awarded
to the research project that has the greatest impact or potential to advance
scientific knowledge or clinical practice as judged by the effect on the
concepts, methods, technologies, treatments, services or preventative interventions
for the field of research.
Award for Innovation in Research
The award recognizes the originality of the research. It is awarded
to the research project that best challenges existing paradigms or clinical
practice as judged by an innovative hypothesis, addresses a critical barrier
to progress, or develops or employs novel concepts, approaches or methodologies,
tools, or technologies for the field of research.
