Tufts University School of Medicine (TUSM) Educational Strategic Planning Retreat Continuing Preparation for Revised TUSM Curriculum On October 3, 2007 at the downtown Boston campus, Tufts University School of Medicine held an Educational Strategic Planning Retreat. There was an update of MedFoundations (pre-clinical education), MedCore (clinical education, and MedExplorations (learning communities and selectives) and further work to develop the content for the new curriculum. This will be implemented for the class entering in fall 2009. Plans to Develop Facilities to Support New Curriculum Include Clinical Skills Center and Campus Academic Center Draft plans for the Clinical Skills Center and Campus Academic Center were also presented. The $20 million renovation of the Sackler Building will occur over the next 3 years. The Academic Center will have fewer lecture halls and many classrooms for 12-20 and 20-30 classrooms to support education in learning communities. The plans include an "open" library with fewer stacks, a dedicated reading room, and fuller service café recognizing the changing use of libraries as learning centers. There is also a fitness facility for all students and TUSM faculty. The Clinical Skills Center will be located at 35 Kneeland Street and will include 12 rooms for simulated patient education and 3 rooms for manikin-based simulation training. Baystate Faculty in Attendance The 10 Baystate faculty attendees included Carrie Bell MD, Sandra Bellantonio MD, Elizabeth Bennett PhD, Thomas Campfield MD, Kristen Dardano MD, Steve Fischel MD, PhD, Philip Hsu MD, Hal Jenson MD, Benjamin Liptzin MD, and Grace Makari-Judson MD. |
