Beginning Fall 2008, Baystate Medical Center's Midwifery Education Program (MEP) is transitioning to a 5-semester curriculum. Through affiliation with the Midwifery Institute of Philadelphia University, which offers distance-based master's completion, the MEP will incorporate concurrent master's degree study within its 5-semester curriculum. Students from the final year long certificate program are graduating December 12, 2008, and the first class of students participating in this new collaborative curriculum were admitted in September.

Representatives from the Midwifery Institute of Philadelphia University recently visited Baystate's midwives and students to inaugurate the affiliation.

The MEP is accredited through 2017 by the American Council for Midwifery Education (Formerly the American College of Nurse-Midwives Division of Accreditation.)
