Feature Rukshana Cader MD, Third-Year Medicine Resident, Appointed Chair of the American Geriatrics Society Resident Special Interest Group Goals Focus on Increasing Resident Exposure to Geriatrics, Including Establishment of New AGS Chapters
Dr. Rukshana Cader is the AGS Residents Special Interest Group's second chair. Having been a member of Baystate’s geriatric medicine track since she was an intern, Dr. Cader has taken full advantage of AGS’ efforts to involve more residents in its organization. She is currently the vice-president of its resident chapter, and was actively involved at the 2007 AGS scientific meeting in Seattle, presenting her poster, ”Class III CHF presenting as a geriatric syndrome”, and participating in the residents mentoring program pilot that linked residents with mentors who could help them with an aspect of their career. News Baystate Researchers Publish Study of Hospitalists' Care in New England Journal of Medicine Findings Bolster Baystate's Own Hospitalist Programs in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics In the December 20 2007 issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, Baystate Medical Center investigators Peter K. Loan Repayment Rule for Residents Will Not Be Eliminated During Transition to New System Move Avoids Possible Economic Hardship for New Residents The US Department of Education announced in November that it will preserve the current definition of the economic hardship deferment debt-to-income ratio pathway, which allows medical residents to qualify for economic hardship deferment and postpone payment of their educational loans for up to 3 years. The ruling avoids a 21-month gap in the transition that could create economic hardship for new residents. Continue...
