ANNOUNCEMENTS Peter Lindenauer, MD Named Director of the Center for Quality and Safety Research Dr. Peter Lindenauer joined Baystate Medical Center in 1998 as the Associate Medical Director in the newly formed Division of Healthcare Quality, and since 2005 has served as Director of Clinical and Quality Informatics. In 2008 Dr. Lindenauer received the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems award for outstanding achievement in Applied Medical Informatics.
Lindenauer is an Associate Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine where he has also received an excellence in teaching award. He also received the Excellence in Research award from the Society of Hospital Medicine in 2008.
Dr. Lindenauer will assume this new role on October 1st. In addition to leading the research activities of the new Center, he will continue to serve as the Medical Director of Clinical Decision Support and Quality Informatics within Clinical Informatics. Thomas Higgins MD, Chief of the Adult Critical Care Division, Chosen for Boston University School of Medicine 2008 Distinguished Alumnus Award The Boston University School of Medicine Alumni Association presented Dr. Higgins with this award in recognition of his outstanding career in anesthesiology and critical care. Dr. Higgins is also Professor of Medicine and Surgery and Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at Tufts University School of Medicine, and is a member of the Baystate Medical Educational Foundation Board of Directors. He considers the award an honor, and says he will "continue to do what he does well—take care of patients, teach housestaff and try to make a difference." 4 Baystate Faculty and 3 Housestaff/Fellows Win TUSM Senior Class Teaching Awards The following Baystate faculty and housestaff were selected by the current TUSM senior class to be honored with teaching awards. Kathryn Sharpless MD, Obstetrics-Gynecology Resident, Wins Research Award The American Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology presented the Best Resident Paper award to Kathryn Sharpless, MD for her oral abstract titled, "Delayed Diagnosis Following Atypical Glandular Cells on Cervical Cytology" in Orlando, Florida on March 21, 2008. Dr. Sharpless will be joining the Department of Obstetrics-Gynecology faculty in September 2008. Baystate Health's Office of Continuing Education Receives Full 5-Year Accreditation The 5-year accreditation—the maximum possible length—was granted to the Office of Continuing Education by the American Psychological Association to provide continuing education to psychologists. The Psychologist Planning Committee chair at Baystate is Mark Elin, PhD. Baystate Animal Care Facility Professionals Earn Certification Carolanne Lovewell, Manager of the Baystate Animal Care Facility (BACF), and Rebecca Lemanski, BACF's Regulatory Coordinator, passed the Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA) Exam in May and are now authorized to use the CPIA designation. |
