Dr. Tara Catanzano Appointed New Associate Program Director for Radiology Residency Stephen J. Ryzewicz MD, Department of Internal Medicine, Will Start Term as President-Elect of the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Society of Addiction Medicine Aaron Kugelmass, MD Appointed Chief of the Division of Cardiology and Medical Director of the Heart and Vascular Program The apointment of Dr. Aaron Kugelmass, most recently Vice Chief of the Division of Cardiology and Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Henry Ford Health System, culminates a 17-month national search. At Ford, Dr. Kugelmass developed a highly successful regional MI network, partnering with hospitals in Michigan and in Canada, and worked to create a multidisciplinary heart and vascular program at a new Henry Ford Hospital. Dr. Kugelmass has been active in clinical research in the areas of interventional cardiology and acute coronary syndromes, as well as outcomes research. After receiving his medical degree from Harvard University, Dr. Kugelmass did his Internal Medicine residency at the University of California San Francisco Affiliated Hospitals, then completed a fellowship in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology at Beth Israel Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Nagendra Yadava, PhD Joins Pioneer Valley Life Sciences Institute's Springfield Staff of Principal Investigators Dr. Yadava will participate in PVLSI's Center of Excellence in Apoptosis Research (CEAR) as well as their endocrine working group. Prior to his appointment, Dr. Yadava was staff scientist at the Buck Institute for Age Research in Novato, California. At PVLSI he will continue his work on mitochondria, key organelles in cells that stand at the intersection of energy metabolism and cell death. His work on mitochondrial dysfunction provides insights into a number of disorders including brain cell death in neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s and other age-associated diseases, particularly diabetes. "Planning Your Career and Promotions Process at Tufts" Overview Now On eWorkplace On September 8th David Schoetz, MD, Professor of Surgery and Chair of the CLINPAC (Clinical Promotions and Appointments Committee) of Tufts University School of Medicine, presented an overview of the promotions process at Tufts. ELAM is the nation's only in-depth program focused on preparing senior women faculty at schools of medicine, dentistry and public health to move into positions of institutional leadership where they can effect positive change. Initial funding of projects approved in this next cycle will begin in early 2009. The application process is in two-stages: those receiving approval for their Letter of Intent must submit a complete proposal by December 1. Interested investigators should visit the Academic Affairs site on eWorkplace. Collaborative Biomedical Research (CBR) Program Call for Proposals Due November 14th Research projects that have co-principal investigators from both UMass Amherst and Baystate Medical Center are eligible to apply.
