faculty developmentUsing a Healthcare Matrix to Simultaneously Improve Patient Care and Education*

Speaker:  Doris Quinn PhD, Director, Process Improvement and Quality Education Department of Performance Improvement, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center

Dr. Quinn and colleagues have developed a tool called the “Healthcare Matrix” in response to the Institute of Medicine's 6 Aims for Improvement, and the requirement for mastery of the ACGME's 6 Core Competencies. The matrix provides a blueprint to help residents learn the core competencies in patient care and help faculty link the mastery of the competencies with improvement in quality of care. This tool is widely adaptable, and especially useful for teaching conferences that use an M&M or case presentation format.
