3 Baystate Faculty Are Among the 7 TUSM Innovations in Education Grant Winners
According to the Innovations in Education Grant Selection Committee, "The quality and variety of
proposals we received this year are a testimony to the talent and creativity of our faculty, and
made the selection process particularly challenging."

Harry Hoar III, MD—Department of Pediatrics
Dr. Hoar's proposal, “Impact of different methods of
diagnostic reasoning on student performance,” was judged to be very much in line with TUSM's Educational Strategic Plan which calls for increased
integration of basic science into the clinical years and was selected to receive $15,000 in funding.

Gladys Fernandez, MD—Department of Surgery
Dr. Fernandez's proposal, “Handoffs of Care – Error
Avoidance & Recognition – Educating Trainees Early & Often,” was judged to be very much in line with TUSM's Quality and Safety key theme and selected to receive $12,500 in funding.

John O'Reilly, MD—Department of Pediatrics
Dr. O'Reilly's proposal, “Creating an interdisciplinary Literature
and Medicine course for TUSM, Nursing, Chaplain, and Pharmacy Students and Residents at
Baystate,” was judged to promote interprofessional education which is a high priority for TUSM. It will receive $14,500 in funding.
Brief descriptions of the proposals will be posted on the Innovations in Education Grant website, The grant period begins July 1, 2010.
Thomas HIggins, MD Appointed For Second Term on Editorial Board of Critical Care Medicine
Dr. Higgins' appointment is for 3 years. He is Chief of the Critical Care Medicine Division.
Gary Kerr, MBA, PharmD, Appointed to Editorial Council of Formulary Journal
Dr. Kerr is Director of Pharmacy Services. Formulary Journal is a peer-reviewed drug management journal for managed care and hospital decision-makers.
Elisabeth Bennett, PhD Elected to Academy of Human Resource Development's Board of Directors
Dr. Bennett will serve a 2-year term. She is Academic Affairs' Director of Education. |
