ANNOUNCEMENTS Tufts CTSI Pilot Studies Program Applications Due June 14, 2010 Tufts CTSI seeks projects that are translational, i.e., that move development of a treatment or technology along the translational pathway—from bench to bedside, from bedside to clinical use, and from clinical use to public benefit and policy. There are 2 types of grants. Catalyst Grants, whose objective is to develop sufficient preliminary data to secure future extramural funding; and Planning Grants, whose goal is to make the project eligible for a Catalyst Award or other translational pilot programs. For more information, visit the CTSI Pilot Studies Program webpage. Eligible applicants are multi-disciplinary research teams in which at least one member is a full-time faculty member of Tufts University. To apply, use the new online system. Voting for Faculty Standing Committee Elections Open Until June 18, 2010 There are 2 options to vote in this important election. Computers Using Modern Web Browsers Use the secure eVoting application accessed from the "Election Ballots" link on the left side of Tufts Medicine Online Services (TMOS) webpage. Faculty at the rank of lecturer, adjunct faculty, visiting faculty and emeritus faculty are not eligible to participate in the voting. Application to Tisch College Faculty Fellows Program Due June 18, 2010 Faculty members from all Tufts schools are invited to apply to Tisch College Faculty Fellows program. The program aims to build the capacity of Tufts faculty to conduct research and teaching with/for active citizenship (or public service, civic engagement, and community leadership). This interdisciplinary group of Fellows will meet four times each seminar, and receive stipends of $3,000 and staff support. Visit the Faculty Fellows website for program description and application instructions. Applications for Dual-Principal Investigator Funding Due July 9, 2010 This internal funding opportunity is intended to stimulate collaboration on a pilot study that will lead to an application to the NIH for a Dual-Investigator Grant Application. Proposals should involve two equal P.I.s. Research assistants, purchase of equipment and supplies, and sponsorship of working retreats are eligible for support. Visit the multiple PIs page on the NIH website for more information about that grant mechanism. Any TUSM faculty may apply provided there is a collaboration with at least one faculty member based in the Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences on the downtown TUSM campus. This program is funded by a grant from the Russo Family Charitable Foundation Trust to Tufts University School of Medicine. In addition, a one-time gift from Michael Jaharis will allow TUSM to provide additional support for meritorious projects. (Download the application form Deadline for Second Round of REACH's International Health Travel Grants Program is August 1, 2010 The International Health Travel Grants Program was established by REACH (Residents Educated in Alternative Cultures and Health) to provide some financial support to residents and fellows seeking a global health experience and to encourage them to incorporate international health as part of their careers. International Health Travel Grants Program Criteria Applications are reviewed by the REACH committee, a multi-disciplinary group that includes faculty from Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and Surgery. Six to eight grants in the range of $500-$1500 will be awarded.
For complete details and the application, visit the International Health Travel Grants program page on eWorkplace. Health Sciences Library Opens "Laptop Lounge" The Library's former desk table room has been renovated as a new “laptop lounge” area. Gone are the old metal PC tables and in their place is a more inviting space to work or to relax. The upholstered, ergonomic seating includes arm rests that comfortably accommodate laptops, and the modular sections can be easily reconfigured for small groups. The room’s natural, northerly lighting and warm autumn tones create a pleasant space for quiet relaxation, all within easy access to other library resources and services. A phone will soon be added for convenience, and future plans may include a flat screen TV-LCD. The laptop lounge does not replace the popular computer lab, located right opposite on the other side of the library. |
